Hello folks. I am back, from outer space, I just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your face, I should changed my stupid look, I should have......Oh whoops sorry, this is my blog not the karaoke bar. Sorry 'bout that. Got carried away there for a second. I know you are going to hate me by about the middle of the night when you can't get to sleep as that song is now playing over and over in your head. I wonder how many of you will be cursing my name when you can't fall asleep tonight? Go on now go, walk out the door, cause you're not welcome anymore, weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with goodbye, did you think I'd crumble, did you think I'd lay down and die, oh no not I, I will survive. *evil laugh*
Okay, okay, so clearly I've had too much pepsi again today. Honestly I think I need help some days. Hyper anonymous, hyper self help groups.
So I made sorbet, yes indeedy I sure did. And let me tell you it's delicious. It surely is. And I did not, I repeat, did not completely trash my kitchen and break some appliances in the process. Nope that was not me, that was my evil twin. She is always causing trouble I swear. Never a dull moment with her. Okay, okay so it was me. I admit it, I trashed the kitchen. I almost broke my brand new food processor. I almost broke my blender. I had hot syrup from one end of the counter top to the other. I had red sauce all over the floor. I had the sink overflowing with dishes, rags overflowing the garbage. Yup, I am Kim and I had a bad day. It started off all innocent and calm like it always does. Then the lunatic unleashes her fury and bam, chaos ensues. I did the syrup no problem. Easy peasy, even did a lemon squeezy. Seriously I did, I added lemon to it. How many times can you say lemon squeezy and it's actually true? Right? I know, it's amazing how little things amuse me. So I don't have a blender (well actually technically I do but I hate it and it's not stainless so it's an abomination to put it on the counter) or an immersion blender so I thought what the hey, I'd toss it in the food processor and whip it. Well, er, never do this. It did not occur to me it would leak out the hole, all over my counter and floor. I saved some of it by quickly grabbing a bowl. But unfortunately so much of it was lost. And now I and my entire kitchen was sticky. You know how awful that is. So I end up pulling out my hideous, I hate it and want it to stop working blender from the far reaches of my cupboards. I put the liquid in the hideous beast from hell and turn it on not realizing I have overfilled it. So, yup, you guessed it, it shoots and seeps out the top. Lovely, I had just cleaned up the last mess I made. So I pour some out and have to do it in two batches. Okay no problem. Then it says to sieve it. Er, okay but I only have a tiny sieve made for fairies who make sorbet so now what? I tried sieving it with the fairy sieve. But I just got annoyed. So I lined a colander with paper towel and did it that way. Took awhile but it worked. The sorbet is beautiful, wickedly tangy and I love it. So I can cope with the sticky sound my foot makes when I walk in the kitchen for now. I'm distracted with sugary goodness so I don't care that everything still feels sticky even though I've cleaned three times.
So the moral of today's story. Always be prepared. I know, I know, that's the boy scout motto. But it applies here. And just about anywhere if you really think about it. Those darn boy scouts are little hand kerchiefed, badged up. cap wearing geniuses. Make sure you always read the instructions all the way through. Make sure you have the proper tools for the job. And for pete's sake buy a sieve. And a shiny stainless blender. Or just buy your sorbet at the store. Save a big mess and a whole lot of trouble.
So here ya go. This recipe is yummilicious. I had a hard time taking photos today as I kept eating it right out of the machine while my pretty styling props had melted sorbet leaking out of it.
Red Berry Messy Kitchen Sorbet:
Ingredients:
2 cups water
1 1/2 cups sugar
Pinch salt
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
2 cups raspberries
2 cups strawberries, hulled
Directions:
Combine your water and sugar in a saucepan and cook over medium to low heat until sugar dissolves. This is your simple syrup.
Once syrup in prepared add salt and berries and lemon juice.
Now put them in a blender (NOT YOUR FOOD PROCESSOR) or use an immersion blender to mix it up.
Strain mixture through a mesh strainer.
Stick in the fridge for 2 to 3 hours.
Now transfer mixture into your ice cream maker and turn on. Mix for 15 to 20 minutes.
You can either serve immediately, or put in freezer until ready to serve.
Looks good right??? So weird how different shots show it looking so different.
Okay so ice cream links. First I will highlight some of my previous ones. Then I shall show you some links to other bloggers who have done some. Hope you enjoy.

So there you have it folks. Those are my ice cream recipes over the summer so far. There shall be some more to come. It's still quite hot here so I will be making it for a few more weeks at least.
Now on to my fellow bloggers ice cream recipes. Here's some I've come across recently. If you have any you'd like added to the line up for next week please don't hesitate to let me know. I follow quite a lot of people and there's only so many hours in the day to scope out recipes. So if you have one you would like on the list I'd love to add it.I am a pretty frequent blog stalker but even I miss some occasionally when I get busy. So click on these lovely recipes and go visit these folks. There are a ton of fabulously talented cooks out there. Feel free to stop by and say hello while you visit. Us bloggers love comments. It lets us know people are paying attention and makes the weird sacrifices we make worth it. You see we spend countless hours thinking about food, planning meals, looking at recipes, gabbing on twitter about food, looking up photo styling inspiration on pinterest for hours, we make countless meals, we make countless trips to the store, and ultimately we make our poor families stand there starving while we take photos for you folks to drool over. So comment so we know it's worth the kids occasionally passing out while waiting for dinner. Worth our families having to stare at the cake for a day until we can get the best time of day for a photo. We're all a little loopy, but we love what we do. Here's what I love:

Toodles and smoochies. xx
I'm making vanilla ice cream even as we speak!!!! Except it's Tuesday! I notice you haven't made any nearly as boring a flavour! We're having it on pancakes tonight with cream and golden syrup. Should be fab. :) I'll try out some of your recipes soon. My vanilla is a rich vanilla recipe. It's yellow? Not sure if it should be that! It's got eggs, and I used chooky eggs from my chooks, so the yolks were yellow. :) Hope it's gonna taste good. I'll let you know. I MIGHT even take a photo!
ReplyDeleteOooh, Kimbee, that is such an evil post! I love it, love ice cream, love sorbet, love that stupid song so much I sang along. Love you too, my wonderful lunatic friend! I have had that same sticky feeling in the kitchen, problem being I cook barefooted and it's even worse when it is your foot making the sticky noises. LOL
ReplyDeleteSeriously, Kim, you are amazing! First, this sorbet is astonishing beautiful and looks so delicious! Second, you are the coolest mom on the planet (referring to your last post). Way to go spending the last few weeks of summer with your kids. I love it! Third, your fairy sieve?? So funny!! Lastly, sugary goodness makes up for so many kitchen floor messes. Yes? You are so cute! Have a great day!!
ReplyDeleteWow! DIY Ice Cream, and they all great! :) Oh I want an ice cream maker too! :) Following from VB.:) Best Regards!
ReplyDeleteKim! This looks AMAZING! I love the pictures - seriously WOWZA! The header picture is stunning!
ReplyDeleteFun post to read, too! I loved "easy, peasy and did a lemon squeezy!". Truly a laugh-out-loud line! Glad you managed to save your appliances!
Oh I am getting all taken away by the look of this( although outside it is bellow zero)We had snow first ime since 1939 and it is aamazing:) But still I would like some of the sorbet, they look amazing:)
ReplyDeleteThat looks sooo soo pretty .. the color .. the texture, everything looks so perfect :)

ReplyDeleteI love the term 'hyper anonymous' Kim, you are a hoot! This sorbet looks both beautiful and delicious. Great post!
ReplyDeleteIn the food processor...yikes, sounds like something that I have done (maybe more than once).
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeously colored sorbet and I have not doubt it tastes as wonderful as it looks :)

ReplyDeleteyummm.....drooling. Weather have been crazy lately. Great time for a sorbet
ReplyDeleteGotta love those immersion blenders! Blended up some strawberries and raspberries in a smoothie for breakfast. Darn! I could have made a sorbet! Your pictures make me kick myself thinking of what I could have had!
ReplyDeleteI love your last paragraph and the fact you seem to be as crazy about ice cream/frozen goodies as me! My mouth is watering... think I'll go have a bowl of ice cream right now!
ReplyDeleteThat sorbet looks amazing Kim! Great round up of other ice cream recipes too. I didnt get around to buying an ice cream maker this summer like I wanted to. I need to keep my eye out for end of summer sales on them!
ReplyDeleteHey Kim, Love this - the sorbet looks so delicious and so easy to make. I think we're kindred spirits in the kitchen. No matter how easy my recipe is I make a mess. I use every bowl I have and every fork, spoon or knife in the drawer, there's flour and sugar all over the counter and me, and my 'robot' appliances are all lined up and ready for duty (I never know which one will work). That's why I love to cook - only once a week :).
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, I just might have to buy an ice cream machine to add to my collection.
Joanne
What doesn't kill us makes us stronger, right? Apart from the fact that sorbet is something too delicious to pass up, we feel we ought to make it at least once out of respect for the trouble you went to to bring us this recipe and this hilarious post. Hope you get a new blender soon!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great list of recipes. This sorbet looks so good, I love the color...so rich! Love the strawberry/raspberry combo!
ReplyDeleteHa! Poor Kim. You sound like me. I just made a huge disaster in my kitchen and have no desire to clean it up! But despite the disasters you had, your sorbet looks really good!
ReplyDelete@ Jennifer- Hey girl, I am so happy you've jumped on the ice cream band wagon. I think it would be your eggs that made it yellow. If it tastes okay don't worry about it. I still have yet to do an egg one. Did you post pics of FB? I tend to go over the top with my ice cream. The only boring one was at Kiana's request. She begged for plain chocolate and I gasped in horror. What do you mean I can't add anything fun to it? She laughed at me when I called her boring.
ReplyDelete@ Rita- Hello my dear! I am evil aren't I? It's so fun though. I am alway barefoot in mine. Even in the winter. I hate wearing shoes and socks. Love ya too darlin'!
@ Carol- Thank you so much. You are too kind. I worried I was a tad too hyper in this post so glad you liked it. Those fairy sieves are just too eeny weeny!
@ Des- Glad you came by. Ice cream makers are so much fun. You can find super cheap ones these days too.
@ Ann- Thanks doll. How much you wanna bet foodgawker hates it. I swear it's some girl who's boyfriend I stole in high school making those decisions or something. No one can hate me THAT much. LOL! Hope you are having fun. Miss ya!
@ Kankana- Thank you so much. High praise. Love it!
@ Nina- I cannot help myself most days. I end up throwing in everything but the kitchen sink.

@ Sandra- Thanks my dear. Hope all is well with you and yours. xx
@ Small Kucing- Thanks. It is so hot, sorbet is a must.
@ mjskit- I want an immersion one so bad. I am appliance poor, still lots I need. Next time try sorbet. So yummy!
@ The Gardner- So glad to meet a fellow frozen foodie lover. Hope you had the biggest bowl you could find!!!
@ Lindsey- Thanks. Do you have a stand mixer? If you do I'd recommend the attachment for it. I wish I had bought that one. I have the cuisinart and love it but that kitchenaid one saves a step I think.
@ Joanne- Lol, I cannot help myself, I make a huge mess. I am also a germ freak so I always grabbing new spoons and spatulas. It's crazy. It usually looks like a natural disaster in there.
