Farm Fresh Fridays Has Gone To The Dogs!!!

Um, so...yah....I bought a dog. This is Malia. She's the newest addition to this crazy household. I think she'll fit right in. She seems a bit cuckoo, especially when hamburgers are involved. So I'll give you the scoop.

First obviously farm fresh fridays is NOT happening today. We had no time to do that. It will all make sense as I tell you what went down. But just want to clarify that there is no farm fresh friday this week. Farm fresh fridays has gone to the dogs. Or dog as the case may be. I shall make up for it over the next couple of weeks though I promise. I have big plans for the one posting in 2 weeks. We're going up to St. Jacob's so that post will be amazing. Such a cool place. You can read about it here if you've never heard of it. Next week I have something planned as well. So figured taking one week off would be okay. I mean who wouldn't with this little face waiting to be picked up.

I had been thinking about getting another dog for awhile. For those who don't know we lost our 14 year old sheltie to heart failure this past spring. He was just the most amazing dog. You can see a pic of him in my story I believe. We had lost our cat to kidney disease just a few months before. Was a hard year. I normally would not even consider another pet for about a year but something pulled at me to get another kitten who you all know as Castiel. He is an amazing animal and I have never regretted getting him. My gut told me he was the one. So when I saw the pic of this little cutie pie puppy I thought she was a doll but the timing isn't great. I kept looking at her. I went and looked at some that were more local to us. Cute and really liked the one but something kept pulling me back to this one. Just kept pulling up her picture. I had emailed the owner and was going to stop to see her next week as she was near St. Jacob's where we were going to be day tripping. But the owner got ahold of me and someone had offered her some bank to take the puppy now. I don't have bank and I also don't have the kind of personality to buy a dog I've not met. So she called and asked if we'd like to meet halfway in the morning and I could see her with no commitment. Then if I didn't want her she could sell her to the other people. I was shocked as I told her take their money and it was okay. But she really liked my email and wanted her to go to us.

So today we hopped in the car and made the long trek to London where we were last week for the Farmer's Market. Long drive, my tummy was upset, it was raining, but we muddled through. Needless to say we got there took one look at her and fell in love. Who wouldn't?

So we took her and was not until we got in the car that we realized two things. One is she stank to high heaven, they had not bathed her. Not cool, poor little thing was quite a little stinker. Lol. Second we didn't get a collar or leash. How bloody weird is that? If she knew we were driving and hour and a half why on earth would she not provide those? So we hopped over to Petsmart and picked those up. Plus some much needed shampoo and some eye stain remover.

She was pretty good on the drive home. We stopped twice. She whined a bit which is totally expected over the next few days. She had some water out of my cup holder. She had some food. She sat with Kiana. She got scared of the windshield wipers. She got scared of the music. She was so good though. Until we stopped at A & W for something to eat. She was good when I offered her a fry Don't freak out, I'm not typically a hand feeder but long trip and whatnot. She was good. Then I gave her a piece of burger. Yah, big mistake. Huge! She lost her ever loving mind. She then tried anything she could to get more, or Kiana's. I honestly thought she was losing her mind. Then she wanted more fries and drove Kiana over the edge for them, and me almost off the road in her antics. Luckily we made it home safe.

So we get home and the kitties hate her which was expected. She is so good about going potty which has to be a fluke. It's raining here so it's not helping the smell. So I decide to bath her right. Partway into the bath I swear I see a flea. I swear I saw two. Okay great, no wonder they didn't bath her, then we wouldn't notice she had them due to the dirt. Not happy. I have 3 cats who do not have fleas and do not go outside who are now going to get fleas. I could scream. But I won't. I'll go into Kim mode. She goes in tomorrow for a checkup and flea meds, the cats will go on flea meds and the house will basically be bombed. Lol

So here are some shots of the little one. She is super cute even though she's filthy. I shall post pics of her clean and sparkly and Kimified tomorrow. But for now I am just so excited and wanted to share this with you guys. Hope you like cutie pie puppies.

It was funny. =) I always want to have a dog (never own one growing up in a small house in Japan), but my two kids are still too young that I will end up with having 3 kids, so I have to wait few more years... till then I'll enjoy your cute little doggie! ;-)

  12. Aaaw, Kim, that puppy is soo adorable!! Waah, I want one too! But I have my little adopted, Smiley. I can relate to losing a 14-year old dog - happened to me too; story on my blog. Very, very difficult. So happy for you because this little one and the kitties will fill your heart and life with love.

Loved your story. You do have the ability to write - you know? You should write a book about your life maybe. People love reading about other people's lives. You would make it interesting and I'm sure others would agree.

  17. Thanks everyone. I am pretty happy with her so far. She slept all night last night. She is going outside. She learned to come to us in about 2 minutes. Smart as a whip. She is a westie. And calm when she's with humans but total spaz when she's after one of the cats. Thanks so much for loving on her. She will be appearing often as Cas the kitten has as well. I need to get the horse in here more.
