Hi folks. Hope everyone is well and all excited for the Christmas season. I cannot believe it's only 2 weeks away. I do not even have my tree yet. House is not decorated. I am not done my shopping. I am usually done my shopping by April. Funny how times change. It's all good though. I have reasons for being a slacker this year. So I am content in my slackerdom, my slackerhood, my slackeresque ways.
I have been baking up a storm today. I was "conveniently" in the kitchen with a clear view of the living room today. Why you ask? Wellllll, mini-me had her boyfriend over today. Yup, you heard that right. Mini-me has a boy toy. For anyone who isn't a regular reader or maybe you are a regular reader and have always thought mini-me was quite young. She is not a toddler, she is actually almost an adult. She turns 18 in just over a week. This is her first boyfriend. They have been friends forever and a day. I know the young man, he's a nice kid. Navy reserves, in University doing a double major. So it's okay that she's dating. *gulp* I am completely okay with my daughter dating. *double gulp* It doesn't even bother in me in the least that my little girl is growing up and has a boy toy. *triple gulp* I am progressive, I'm hip, I'm....lying through my teeth. I do however like him. But she's my BABY. So I made sure I had one eye on them at all times. I'm sure he was really comfortable with it. I'm sure it wasn't weird at all. I mean I just "happened" to need to bake all day while they watched movies 10 feet away. Yup, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.
I have to say if it does not work out between him and mini-me our puppy is going to be destroyed. Little Malia just fell in love with the poor guy. She harassed him something awful. I'm not positive but there may be bite marks on his nose and neck. Love bites I'm sure. I mean she's just a cute little puppy. I mean she is so well behaved and ....okay totally lying again. She is a little hooligan, a rogue agent sent in to destroy everything and everyone in her path. She's the demon spawn of Satan I swear to goodness. She has 666 tattooed on her I'm telling you. So if things don't work out with him and mini-me he better just adopt Malia. I have to say she is coping well since we NEVER have visitors. This was only the second time since we've had her that someone has stopped by. The first time was a friend of mine and the demon spawn peed all over the place when she came in. Got a little too excited. So this time she just got excited, so we're making progress right. Baby steps right. Demon spawn baby steps.
So I made this gorgeous ice cream last week but I was sick and not posting much. I figured I had better get it up here before Christmas comes and goes. I have another fun one for you but I may wait until after Christmas to show you. So this bumped the super fun one. Aren't you happy to hear that. Aren't you just dying to know what it is? Yeah well mystery loves company, wait, no that's not right. Well the suspense is killing you. Wait, that doesn't sound very nice either. How about I just say "oh boohoo, get over it". Oh jeez, did I just say that out loud? I meant *smiles sweetly* I shall surely post this lovely recipe in the very near future so all my lovely fans can marvel at it's beauty. Did I tell you that you look pretty today? And thin?"
Alrighty roo folks enough of this silliness, let's get on with the show. Or blog. Or whatever.
Pretty Pepperminty Ice Cream:
Recipe adapted from Cuisinart's Simple Vanilla Ice Cream
Ingredients:
1 cup whole milk
3/4 cup sugar
Pinch of salt
2 cups heavy cream
1 tablespoon peppermint extract
12 candy canes, broken up
Directions:
In your stand mixer combine whole milk and sugar. Mix until sugar dissolves.
Now add salt and mix for a second or two.
Now add your heavy cream and peppermint extract, mix well.
Cover this bowl and stick in the fridge for 1 to 2 hours.
Remove and uncover. Transfer liquid to FROZEN ice cream maker bowl.
Crush your candy canes and pop those into the ice cream maker bowl as well. (tip- if you don't want them too mixed in add them by hand later)
Turn on your ice cream maker and let it run for 15 to 20 minutes.
You can either serve immediately or cover it and stick it in the freezer until ready to serve.
If serving later make sure you take it out about 10 or so minutes before you want to eat it.
You can garnish it with more crushed peppermint candy canes.
Serve with a big Christmasy smile!
Gorgeous right?! I'll give you one more peek before you love and leave me.
Yup, that's some dang fine ice cream. Almost makes me forget that my baby girl is dating a boy. *cries uncontrollably*

Love the ice cream sans peppermint extract :D & it's pretty gorgeous, too ;) Btw , love that last sentence hee hee
ReplyDelete@anne- Thank you so much. This was some minty good ice cream. Lol, could not help myself.
ReplyDeleteThe ice-cream looks amazing and your photos are stunning! (and I think the love bites on the boy toy are NOT from the dog....)
ReplyDeleteI am SO glad that my daughter is only 5. I can totally wait to have her dating. I think baking all day in the kitchen 10 feet away is mild. I will probably sit on the couch with them when the time comes!
ReplyDeleteThe ice cream is gorgeous. I made peppermint ice cream a couple of Decembers ago. It was a bit hit, especially with brownies and hot fudge sauce!!
What a beautifully festive ice cream!! I also must comment that the pictures are stunning. I really love the ornaments... well done!! Hope you get your tree up and the shopping done. I have the tree up.. .but no shopping done either. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteThis is so festive! Merry Christmas to you in advance!
ReplyDeleteI think I am turning into a peppermint patty with all the peppermint recipes being posted! I am sure though that it has its benefits. There are a bunch of delicious cookies and I could just pair them with this ice cream..now off to look for a peppermint cake recipe!
ReplyDeleteKim, you are seriously making me wish that I had asked for an ice cream maker for Christmas! Peppermint is my favourite by a long shot and this just looks delicious!!
ReplyDeletePS I'm sure my mom reacted the same way when I started dating.
Kim, great recipe and photos as usual. I've asked Santa for an ice cream maker so I can hopefully start making some of these recipes soon!!!
ReplyDeleteOMG this is one of my favorite flavors. And I had completely forgotten about it! Thanks for the reminder!
ReplyDeleteLooks delicious! Love the rim decoration :)
ReplyDeleteWell you may not have the Christmas tree up yet or the decorations - but your decorations on this ice cream are fabulous! I love the idea of the rim around the dish. As for the dating - well, I'm totally with you. Not there yet, but my 9-yr-old (youngest) announced that she 'needed' a cuddly toy from 'Santa' this year, as I had to understand that her next cuddly toy would be a boyfriend. I wish we could just sit down and eat that ice cream together! Great post.
ReplyDeleteYour post put a smile on my face, Kim! I have two girls, a 9 yr old and a 6 yr old...I can't imagine myself being as cool as you when it comes to them dating or having boy toy. Just a thought of it scares me. LOL
ReplyDeleteDelicious looking ice cream, btw. I love the presentation too! So festive!
Oh, that really IS pretty. And it looks insanely good. Buzzed!
ReplyDeleteOooo, twin, you're gonna make me have to dig out the container for the ice cream machine and considering it is buried way down in the deep freeze, that means actual physical labor. Aren't you ashamed of yourself?
ReplyDeleteI look forward to peppermint ice cream all year until it comes out in the stores. Now I won't have to wait. BUAHAHAAAAAAA!!! I mean... erhmmm... buzzed ya.
That is gorgeous ice cream--love the crushed candy cane garnish. As for mini-me, I'm sure she has a good head on her shoulders!
ReplyDeleteHubby says that Dudette's allowed to date when she's 30. We'll see how that goes. Could you hear my sigh of pleasure for that ice cream from over there? It looks fantastic. It's Christmas in one gorgeous pink ball.
ReplyDeletemmmmmm....peppermint and Christmas just go hand in hand. I absolutely love the peppermint rimmed glasses, pure genius. I'm starting to depend on you for my daily dose of the giggles :)
ReplyDeleteOh Yeah! Kim this is waaaaayyy too cute & delicious!
ReplyDeleteLol! My mommy heart goes out to you. I dread the day my daughter starts dating any boy. :) But at least you had yummy ice cream to distract you! This looks AMAZING and delicious.
ReplyDelete~Blessings,
Rosann
If you bring me some of this ice cream, you're officially adopted! Super YUM!
ReplyDeletePS...the daughter dating thing is pretty tough...thank goodness you can send Malia over to check on them :)
Great ice cream recipe. This is perfect for the holiday but I would probably grab a bowl anytime of the year. Nice touch with the rim of the mug. Can I have two please?
ReplyDeletePretty is the perfect word to describe this ice cream. I LOVE it!!! I don't have kids yet, but I do have a brother and sister that are both only 13 years old and I cringe whenever I hear them talk about the opposite sex. My little brother is a ladies man and always tells me he has like 5 girlfriends! Little playa!
ReplyDeleteI love pink peppermint ice cream. For some reason it just tastes so much better than the pink stuff ;)
ReplyDeleteI meant green stuff!
ReplyDeleteI love anything and everything peppermint this season! Love how you took it to the next level with making ice cream!! Thanks so much for linking up today Kim! :)
ReplyDelete@Ann- Thanks and OMG woman bite your tongue. *shudders*
ReplyDelete@Kristen- I did that when my son dated so I've mellowed. Lol. Your idea of brownies and hot fudge sauce sounds wicked good.
@Curry and Comfort- Thank you so much. You are so sweet. We both better get off our butts and finish I think.
@Shu Juan- Thank you so much. And to you as well.
@Tina- I think some of us love peppermint so much we get overzealous when we have our window. Lol!
@Kels- There's still time darling, stick a pic of one on your fridge or slip it in your mom's purse. Lol! I swore I would never say having a boy or girl is different but when it comes to dating it is so different. It's freaking me out. But I'm happy for her too.
@Dara- That's perfect. I hope you enjoy it. I love mine to bits and have never regretted getting it.
@Yummy Mummy- It's so classic. Glad I reminded you too. Can't miss this opportunity to make seasonal ice cream.
@Kiri- Thanks!
@Jill- Thanks so much. I am telling you these kids grow up so fast. One day we'll get to meet and cook and eat together. I firmly believe that.
@Tina- Thanks so much. Oh man, 2 girls. Well by the time yours are older I'll be a seasoned pro and give you lots of advice. Lol!
@Carolyn- Thanks so much!
@Janet- Lol, I'd offer to help but with all this ice cream my rump might get stuck in the deep freeze. No that would be shameful. Lol!
@Cucina- Thanks and thanks. You are so sweet.
@The Mom Chef- Ya, that's what we said too. Lol! And thanks.
@christie- Oh no, the pressure is on to perform, I may not be able to handle it. Luckily I have a freezer full of ice cream to drown my sorrows in. And thanks and stuff.
@Promise- Thanks so much.
@Roseann- Thanks so much. I may have to barracade the door with vats of ice cream to keep the boys away.
@Lizzy- Done deal Mama Skinny. Thank goodness of Malia, she will bite him if he gets to close to Kiana. Or the other way around since she seems to like Kelvin more than Kiana right now. Lol!
@Emily- 2 coming right up. I'll even rim the mug for ya.
@Stephanie- Thank you. That is funny. We keep teasing our kids and telling them things like "marry for money" and "stay single" just to mess with their heads. Lol!
@Feast on the Cheap- Totally agree with ya!!
@Natasha- Thanks so much for coming by and your kind words. I am so glad I found you. I'll be around most of the day tomorrow so hoping I can visit a whole bunch of folks on the linky. Your blog is amazing!
