Hi folks. I am SO behind. I cannot fall behind otherwise I won't be able to share all my Christmas ideas with you. I have done so much today. In the midst of cooking a ton today I have also been to the barn, cleaned and returned all our horse stuff to the barn, done paperwork (trying to do year end so I can slip it away and start fresh), gone over our finances and budget (scary!), done laundry (endless) and am cleaning out two closets (overkill). Yup, I have issues. We're also in the process of putting two bookcases in the basement and I have to organize them. Yes my books will be placed in alphabetical order by author then title. Yes I have serious issues. Now you would think me being this ocd would mean my house is immaculate, trust me it is not. Well, not right now anyway. It looks like a hurricane blew through. But by week's end it will be finished and ready for guests. I tend to like things to have a place. Once it is chaos I tend to create more chaos and then by the end it looks stunning. Just getting there is difficult.
I found this amazing recipe to share with you guys. I have had this cookbook for eons, just never made much out of it. I was looking for something stunning and a bit off the wall for SLOW COOKER SATURDAY. I hate to do the ordinary. So when I came across this I just knew it was the one. Party mix in a slow cooker, now that's just thinking outside the box. I love whoever came up with this idea. I have no idea who that person is but I want to marry them and have babies with them. Now if that someone happened to be Timothy Oliphant then so be it. A deals a deal. I shall suffer through. It'll be hard but somehow I'll make it work. *giggles uncontrollably and stares at the call display waiting for it to say Timothy Oliphant*
Alrighty roo folks, so without further ado or silliness or craziness or rambling or carrying on or going on and on and on.....oh wait, I guess I just did all that. Alrighty roo folks with further ado and silliness and craziness and carrying on and going on and on and on, I bring you....drumroll please....
It's My Party and I'll Sigh If I Want To, You Would Sigh To If I Made This For You Party Mix:
Adapted from Easy Home Cooking All New Slow Cooker Cookbook
Ingredients:
3 cups rice crackers
2 cups shreddies cereal
2 cups pretzel sticks
2 cups pecans
1/2 cup butter, melted
4 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Directions:
In your slow cooker combine crackers, cereal, pretzels and pecans. Stir.
In the microwave melt your butter for about a minute.
Now in a bowl combine your butter, worcestershire sauce, salt, garlic powder and onion powder. Stir.
Pour this butter mixture over the stuff in the slow cooker.
Toss to coat it well. I just use a big wooden spoon. Try not to be too rough though.
DO NOT COVER THE SLOW COOKER!!!
Now turn your UNCOVERED slow cooker on high for 2 hours. Stir every 30 minutes or so.
Now turn it down and cook UNCOVERED for another 2 to 4 hours on low. I found 2 hours sufficient. Stir every 30 minutes.
Let cool.
Store in an airtight container.
Try not to eat all the pretzels while they are piping hot.
So cool that you make this in a slow cooker. Hurrah for slow cookers. Slow cookers rock. Slow cookers rule. Slow cookers kick butt. Slow cookers for president. Er, okay well not the last one but all the rest.

I absolutely love this ! Better than store-bought ones for sure ;)
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I'm crazy about party mixes....the homemade kind! Store bought is ...eh! Homemade ROCKS! Way cool that you can do it in the slow cooker!
ReplyDeleteWho's Timothy Oliphant? Some national geographic guy with big ears? Wait, lemme google this ... Oh, Ooooohhhh ... (ahem), I was ooohing at the party mix, of course. Slow cookers rock!
ReplyDeleteGreat snack recipe and the method of preparation is a true thumbs up--thanks for posting this gem of a recipe-yum!
ReplyDeleteSo, are we supposed to cover the slow cooker???? (KIDDING, I'm just kidding.) I'm going to get me some nice jars and make this as gifts for Dudette's teachers. I've been trying to figure out what to do and this is perfect.
ReplyDeleteLove this. Looks soooo much better than store bought. I would never in a million years think to make party mix in a slow cooker. Damn, Kim, you are original!
ReplyDeleteI made crockpot snack mix yesterday. It's the only way I'll make it. So much better than store bought.
ReplyDeleteAfter smelling that cook for 4 hours, I would be covered in drool. Not a pretty thought, but most likely true. I can tell that I don't use my slow cooker nearly enough. However in the cause of keeping my face and clothes free of drool, that might be okay in this case. Just saying.
ReplyDeleteLove that you can make this in a slow cooker!
ReplyDeleteHow is it that we are all so behind this time of year! Just when I think I MIGHT be caught up I add about 100 things to my to do list!
Oooo, I make like 14 tons of Chex Mix (seriously... we serve it out a dump truck) every year but this sounds even better. I wonder if my kids would lynch me if I changed it up this year.
ReplyDeleteKim - Just want to wish you a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Thanks for visiting my blog this past year. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, I imagine the slow cooking method makes this incredibly flavorful! What a fun recipe!
ReplyDeleteI love snack mix! It's my favorite holiday treat. Thanks for sharing this slow cooker version.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea to make this in a slow cooker! Yum yum!
ReplyDeleteYou have been busy. I love snack mix! Great recipe.
ReplyDeleteHi folks. Super busy day, will reply as soon as I have some free time. Just wanted to thank everyone for taking the time to stop in and leave me a note. I appreciate it so much! xx
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I'm so glad I didn't miss this. Perfect, I love party mix. And great idea to do it in the slow cooker!
ReplyDeleteOne of my friends gave us party mix last year and it was my very first time to receive homemade party mix. I was actually shocked how delicious it was (I've never tasted homemade one prior to that). I didn't know how she made it, so this recipe is super helpful for me! I didn't know you add some powders in it for flavor. I have to make it on my own!! Thanks for this recipe Kim!
ReplyDeletewow, I had no idea you could make party mix in the slow cooker - how cool is that? And it looks great too! Bravo.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful gift this would make--crunchy and salty and flavorful.
ReplyDeleteSo cool! I was wondering how you could do this and not end up with a bunch of soggy pretzels. I've got to try this one!!!!
ReplyDeleteI just recently made party mix and would have not even thought of making it in a slow cooker. Thanks for sharing! This looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteYUM, yum! I can't make this or I'd eat it ALL! Great to know that you can make it in a slow cooker...you're a wealth of info between the giggles! I'm parked here waiting for all your weekend posts to roll in :) xoxo
ReplyDelete@Lizzy- Thanks and roflmao. I am unsure there will be any. Sick as a dog. Mini-me infected me. I still have shopping to do and need groceries but not sure I want to go out like this. Ugh!
ReplyDeleteI just might have to try this in the slow cooker. It does sound easier than the traditional oven method.
ReplyDeleteKim: You passed your sick onto me.
ReplyDeleteSick stomach, headache, equilibrium out of whack.
You are such a good friend!
Praying for everything to come right for you and your family.
Praying your New Year is full of blessings!
