Banana Chocolate Bread and a Trashed Kitchen

Hi folks. I am back with another one for you. I was in the mood to bake last night. I kind of got carried away. I have a bit of a compulsive personality. I can't just make one thing. I have to go over board. So I was having a craving for banana bread. That lead to making it but putting a bit of a spin on it. And adding chocolate as everything is better with chocolate. I mean who else can take a healthy recipe and turn it into this:

It started off as a healthy craving. Then I thought it might be a bit boring so I added chocolate chips. Then it looked like this:

So I popped it out of the pan and was left staring at this:

Boring! SO boring! Needs some kick, some pizazz, some oomph, some....chocolate. So I did this:

Ah, so much better. Want a slice?

You better hurry up, I've been known to do this:

Hey, what's that over there? Look behind you:

I'm not even sorry. It's that good.

Alright since I ate your piece I'll share the recipe. Just make sure you send me a slice or two or ten when you make yours.

Banana Chocolate Bread:

Inspired by Kraft Kitchens Chocolate Chunk Banana Bread

Ingredients:

2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon vanilla salt
2 eggs
1 cup mashed bananas (about 3 bananas)
1/3 cup walnut oil
1/4 cup milk
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup crushed walnuts

For chocolate drizzle:
2 ounces or squares of semi-sweet chocolate
2 ounces of cream ( I used whipping cream, you could use heavy or just milk)

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

In a large bowl mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Set aside.

In another large bowl beat the eggs, banana, oil, and milk.

Now add your dry ingredients to your wet ingredients and fold in until incorporated. Do not over mix.

Now add walnuts and chocolate chips. Fold in lightly.

Pour mixture in a greased loaf pan or bundt pan.

Cook for about 50- 55 minutes. Toothpick will come out clean when done.

Remove from oven and let cool in pan for about 10 minutes.

Now remove from pan and let cool completely.

While it is cooling you can make your drizzle.

Start by putting some water in the bottom of a double boiler. Now stack them and turn on medium to low heat.

Once water is heating up nicely add you chocolate and melt.

Let the chocolate cool for a few minutes then add milk or cream, whisking until smooth.

Pour over banana chocolate loaf.

Let chocolate cool.

Serve with a chocolately smile.

Looks good right!!! But this is not all I did last night. I was craving this:

Yummy peachy goodness coming at ya tomorrow.

But that wasn't enough. I needed more. So I made this again:

Yah, this is out of this world. Recipe coming at ya tomorrow as well. So good.

So when you make this much stuff you also tend to make a mess. I was trying to be quiet as it was late at night and 2 of the 4 of us were snoozing. So while trying not to wake up the boys and overdoing my baking resulted in this:

So you're thinking so...it's not that bad. I've made bigger messes in my sleep. Er, look again folks. There is more:

Er, really I am a clean freak. Not that you can tell from this. Or this:

Um, yes my name is Kim and not only am I a cooking addict but I am also a mousehunt addict. Have you ever played it? It's a game on fb, it's totally addictive. I've played it for about 3 years or something like that. So yah, I was sounding my horn while baking. Every 15 minutes. Yup, I have issues. I could have used that time to do dishes but no, I played mousehunt. So my kitchen looked like this:

Um, yah so consider yourself special. I don't even let my family see my house like this. I am a clean freak, an germ nut, an ocd counter wiper. Yet somehow last night that all fell by the wayside while I baked, played mousehunt and trashed my spotless kitchen. Hope you're happy now Lunatic fans. This is all your fault. I blame you completely. I mean it has to be some one's fault and it can't possibly be mine. Okay so maybe I blame mousehunt. Just a little. It's just so darn fun. I cannot help myself. I have to sound that horn. I have to see which mouse I caught. You should play too. It's so much fun. I play way too much. Seriously, I have issues. Someone get the straitjacket immediately. Just make sure you put my laptop near me so I can sound my horn.

Toodles and smoochies. xx

ps. giveaway winner coming up. Sorry it's so late. Not sure what I was thinking scheduling that for the holiday weekend. Just finalizing the post. Will either post shortly or in the morning. Was just informed I have to drive B to work in the morning.

  2. Ann- Lol, thank goodness for dishwashers. I hesitated sharing this one as I hate people to see my house messy. But it's just so darn funny. I'm hoping to put up a backsplash sometime this month. Been waiting for hubs to get back to work so I can do it. It's so needed considering how messy of a cook I am. Lol!

  3. The chocolate does look yummy! But, sadly, I'm allergic to bananas.

And you need a MH 12 step program...

  4. Amy- Lol, never. I am an addict through and through. Oh that sucks that you are allergic to naners. I love your hat!!!

  7. Teeeheehee! You made me giggle while reading your post alone in my dining room... Your banana chocolate bread looks delicious and I wish I have a big piece with me right now. Thanks for letting us peek your kitchen. =) That was really fun. I zoomed in to check details. Just kidding!

  8. I can do pretty well keeping up with the dishes until dish #3. It kills me every time. Inevitably something needs to come out of the oven at the same time I need to rinse a dish or whatever and then I answer the call of the timer and forget to rinse the dish and then once I make that first error, it perpetuates and I can't recover.

  9. I mean this in only the nicest way, but you ARE a baking lunatic! Wow!!! What yummy things coming out of your kitchen...and gilding the lily with chocolate is always encouraged :)

  11. All of us have done that to our kitchen at one time or another no matter how clean we are normally. I like to blame it on whichever one of my sons is on dishes that week. Can't wait to see the peach recipe. My family loves banana dishes, but an episode of glutteny when I was a child has scarred me forever when it comes to eating them myself.

  12. Looks like your adrenaline comes straight from your food cravings! Creating is the fun part, but the the cleaning that follows is a necessary evil. Your banana bread looks delicious and I am looking forward to the peach recipe. Get some rest!

  13. Man I would clean your kitchen for you just for a few slices of those delicious items that you whipped up. I can't wait for the upcoming recipes :)

  14. Cafe World sucks me in so I feel your pain. Sometimes I wish my kitchen had a door so I could just shut out all the dishes screaming at me to clean them.

I'm thinking I need to give this a try for the family. I'm not a chocolate fan, but they love the stuff, and bananas. Many thanks for the inspiration.

  15. I love that you added the chocolate on top of this banana bread! The bananas still make it healthy right? =)

  21. Kim, your banana chocolate bread looks fantastic! Chocolate definitely makes everything better...well, that and cheese (but not with this bread, of course). Looking forward to your peach creation! :)

  22. My kids would go bananas for this bread (cheesy pun intended)! ;) They love banana bread - all kinds we're discovering - but chocolate would put them over the top with excitement.

  23. Oh my goodness - chocolate overload! Seriously, if I want to smile or laugh, I just come over here to your place, Kim. I don't have a dishwasher and haven't had one for over 5 years in my new country. I tell you it's crazy in my kitchen sometimes - and it's not all that big - as in surface space is at a premium. 24. Huh, I never would have thought to use that baking pan to make banana nut bread in. It looks like it make it more light and airy.

  28. @Anne- Lol, I get carried away. But making a mess calms me down.

@Dzoli- You must try this one!

@Nami- Lol, it would be scary to zoom in. I loved writing this one.

@Gwenevere- Same thing here. I think only so much multi tasking is possible.

@Lizzy- I do tend to lose it occasionally. But it's so worth it. Lol.

    @Claudia- Thanks so much.

@Kristen- Yikes, I had one of those with fish and couldn't eat it for about 20 years.

@Tina- Thanks. I needed a rest after all that baking.

@Rachel- Any time you wanna swing by and do dishes in trade for treats you just let me know.

@The Mom Chef- I have avoided playing all others for lack of time. I used to play ghost trappers and cob but I didn't care for the company running them. So quit and just play my beloved mh. So fun. Hope you try this out. It's a yummy one.

@Peggy- That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

    @Julie- Thanks so much.

    @Stephanie- Thanks and absolutely.

@Sandra- Lol, well I'm glad you found it. Thanks, I like to rock. Sometimes roll too.

@Jen- Thanks for following and hopping by.

@Pretend Chef- Thanks, this would help you for sure.

@Alida- Thanks and lol, I agree. Chocolate and cheese always winners, just not together. Peach one should go up tomorrow. Spent the day with mini-me today as it was our last day before school starts.

@Kristy- Lol, you must try this.

@Jennifer- Thanks so much. We didn't have one until we moved here. So I went 19 years sans dishwasher. Needless to say I throw just about everything in there nowadays.

@TheChocolatePriestess- I just bought it the other day so had to find a reason to pull it out and test drive it. I liked the way it worked out. Very light, very airy, I would highly suggest it.

@Firefly- Lol, thanks. I think we all trash our kitchens from time to time. It's scary but that's why I had kids. All those years of catering to them and now they owe me big time. Rofl.

    @Jo- Thanks so much.

  44. Hi Kim, Your bread looks awesome! Chocolate makes everything look so pretty. Your kitchen mess looks alot like mine. My kitchen is so small with no counter space that it's always a wreck from cooking or baking. Will have to try your yummy recipe.
I'm so sorry to hear about loosing both of your beloved fur babies this spring. I know how hard loosing one has been and couldn't imagine 2 at a time. Sending you a big hug. We just have to keep remembering the happy memories and remind ourselves how lucky we were to have them in our lives.
