Hi folks. So here it is. The long awaited and promised ice cream sunday post. I mean it's only Wednesday right, so I'm not that late. I mean if you really think about it you could say I'm just really early for next week. If you want to put a positive spin on it then that's our story and we are sticking to it.
So I thought long and hard about what kind of ice cream I should make for the final posts in this series. I mean I really put so much effort, time and work into coming up with just the right ingredient. I wanted it to be so special so I had to pull out all the stops and really think this through. Okay, seriously? You aren't really buying this are ya? Truth be told I went to a movie with mini-me on Sunday and we went to the bookstore after the movie and I saw these things and just had to buy them. Then I got home and realized it was Sunday and having been on a road trip this weekend I hadn't thought about or prepped anything for Ice Cream Sundays. So I grabbed what was handy and made this. And if truth REALLY be told, I so did not make this on Sunday. I thought about making it on Sunday, I wanted to make it on Sunday, I hoped to make it on Sunday. But I didn't make it on Sunday. So there you have it. My dirty little secret. Sometimes I get behind, sometimes I am not an uber housewife and cook. Sometimes I just plan suck and I just really don't care that much that I suck. I should care that I suck, I want to care that I suck, but truth be told I just could care less about the sucking. Sometimes hanging with the famdamnily is just more important. Sometimes sitting watching Heartland with mini-me is more important than ice cream. Sometimes I even blow off doing things I should and watch the real housewives of anywhere. So there it is, I am human. I get lazy, crazy and just plain suckazy some days. That's a word right?!
Hopefully I am forgiven. I have just not been myself lately. Burning the candle at both ends. I think I'm just so behind I'll never catch up. The crazy school schedule combined with the puppy is just ruining my blogging mojo. I try to get things done but things just keep getting in the way. Puppy is a handful. I adore her but my goodness she is a bundle of energy. She just goes nonstop. Nothing like my sheltie was. She bites, she digs, she barks, she terrorizes the kitties, she nips heels, she bites fingers, she can fit under all my furniture and finds it hilarious to go under the bathroom vanity and pull out anything she can find. Like cat toys long forgotten and lost. She also really enjoys eating cat fur. It's really gross. I have 3 ragdoll cats so there is hair that gets under things and she just loves to find it and snack on it. Then hack and cough. Oh the joys of puppies. So much fun. She is doing well training though. She sits, she comes, she puts her paws out to dry off when she comes inside, she sleeps all night (sometimes we have to wake her as she sleeps 9 hours on occasion), she naps, she rarely goes potty in the house. Maybe one accident a day. Usually on one of the kids watch, not typically with me in charge. She knows the word no and listens to it sometimes. Not always. So all in all it's going okay. She's just busy, and needs to be watched. It's a bit like having a baby in the house. But a baby that barks and terrorizes your toes. I do have to say she is awesome helping in the garden though. Today I was doing some fall cleanup and she was helping me pull weeds. I found a big one way back by the neighbours fence and had trouble pulling it so she grabbed it and tugged furiously for me. She likes to pull up weeds, she doesn't dig grass too much. She just digs weeds. I should hire her out to all the neighbours. I'd make a killing with a weed eating dog. It's so weird.
Okay so enough about me. No really. I couldn't possibly talk about myself any more. Okay I could but I'm short on time so let's get on with this shall we. Quiet there in the back please.
I'm Sorry You Broke Your Jaw On It Ice Cream:

3/4 cup sugar
Pinch vanilla salt
2 cups heavy cream
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 cup mini jawbreakers
Directions:
In a bowl with hand mixer or in a stand mixer, combine whole milk, sugar and vanilla salt. Mix until sugar dissolves.
Stir in heavy cream and vanilla extract and mix again for a few minutes.
Cover bowl and stick in the fridge for 1 to 2 hours.
Remove from fridge and transfer liquid to FROZEN ice cream maker freezer bowl.
Set freezer bowl in to the ice cream maker and turn on for about 10 to 15 minutes.
During the last 1 to 2 minutes add in your mini jawbreakers. Do not over mix.
Serve immediately or stick in freezer until ready to serve. If freezing be sure to take it out about 10 minutes before serving.
Enjoy!

Love this one. It's just so fun. Who doesn't love candy. And these mini ones are just small enough that they unfreeze enough to eat them without needing surgery due to them being frozen. So it works perfectly. They are so cute, and tasty. Makes a fun, easy to make ice cream for kids. And adults cuz let's be honest I've eaten more of it than the kids. So good!
On to ice cream linky love. There are not many this week. I think most people are done with the ice cream and into the fall baking. Me not so much. I don't like pumpkin, or squash so fall kind of sucks for me. I do like apples though so will be sure to post lots of apple recipes. Anyhow on to the lovefest.

Hi Kim! Such a pretty colorful ice-cream! Your pup sounds a lot like mine! ...adorable and crazy, but so much fun and so cute you could just hug them all day (except they won't stay still).
ReplyDeleteI hope you catch up on (first) your sleep (second) your ME time and (third) your blogging. Don't over do.....

ReplyDeleteFinally vanilla ice cream!!! But seriously, if I gave that to my kids, they'd be running around like your dog!!! Artificial colours do not agree with them. But it really is a beautiful looking dessert. I shall be content to just admire it... how about some choc ice cream?!

Another great ice cream! i had no idea they made mini jawbreakers! What a great idea to put them in ice cream.
ReplyDeleteHa! I like the name of this ice cream! It sounds pretty good and I don't think it's ever too cold for ice cream!!
ReplyDeleteOk, you are really cracking me up tonight! Your dog stories are hysterical...yeah, Lambeau has had her day, too (when she ate the remote control and we were stuck with Picture in Picture on our TV for the months the remote was back ordered). A weed pulling dog? I'll hire your cutie :)
ReplyDeleteThis ice cream looks fabulous dotted with vibrant colors. Now you go put your feet up...you deserve it.
