Revenge Of The Blondie Nerds!!!

"I just wanted to say that I'm a nerd, and I'm here tonight to stand up for the rights of other nerds. I mean uh, all our lives we've been laughed at and made to feel inferior. And tonight, those bastards, they trashed our house. Why? Cause we're smart? Cause we look different? Well, we're not. I'm a nerd, and uh, I'm pretty proud of it."
"I'm a nerd too. I just found that out tonight. We have news for the beautiful people. There's a lot more of us than there are of you. I know there's alumni here tonight. When you went to Adams you might've been called a spazz, or a dork, or a geek. Any of you that have ever felt stepped on, left out, picked on, put down, whether you think you're a nerd or not, why don't you just come down here and join us. Okay? Come on."
"Just join us cos uh, no-one's gonna really be free until nerd persecution ends."

Don't ya just love that movie? Classic '80s flick. A little wild but hey, why shouldn't nerds be wild.

So I've been on a candy kick lately. It's not over. There's more coming. Just warning you now. So prepare yourselves. Get those toothbrushes prepped, you"ll need them. Maybe book a cleaning, perhaps a fluoride treatment. I can assure you it will be worth it.

We picked up nerds the other day. Mini-me wanted me to make cookies with them. but I had always wanted to try blondies. I've heard people say they are as good if not better than brownies. Okay so let's just clear this up now. I either had a mediocre blondie recipe or they just are not as good as brownies. I like brownies. I love brownies. I love that I like brownies. I like that I love brownies. I just think they rock, and I have to say I am now craving one something awful.

For me these blondies just don't measure up to a brownie. So if you have a better blondie recipe feel free to let me know. I'd love to try another and see if it was just the recipe I used or if I am a blonde blondie hater. There's a fun tongue twister for you. Blonde bombshell bites blondie but brownies better! Say that 5 times. Fast!

Now don't get me wrong, these were good. Just not fall on the floor or jump up and down good. But certainly yummy! I thought the color of the nerds would bounce off them wonderfully which they did. I thought the nerds would add some fun to them which they did. I thought the nerds would also add some sweetness which they did. But something was still missing. So I tried drizzling them with a pink glaze. Then I sprinkled more nerds over top. I bit into one and still something was missing. So I drizzled white glaze over them and added some more nerds. I bit into it and something was still missing. You know what it is? It's chocolate. It's the chocolate that does it for me with brownies. So what I was missing was a brownie. But you can't make a blondie a brownie. So while I am disappointed in the lack of chocolatey goodness I am pleased with the blondie taste with the nerd explosion. I hope you try them out. Great way to get kids to eat a blondie instead of a brownie.

Okay now that I have a headache from all the tongue twisting going on let's just bop over to the blondie recipe. Enjoy, and watch the movie while you munch them. Great old movie.

WHAT'S BETTER THAN BLONDIES? WELL CANDY ONES WITH ICING OF COURSE!

Blondie Nerds:

Ingredients:

1 cup butter, softened
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 large package (170 grams) of rainbow nerds (save a few for tossing on top)

Directions:

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.

Line a square cake pan with parchment paper.

Cream butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.

Beat in your egg and your vanilla extract.

In another bowl combine flour and baking soda, mix.

Now take your dry ingredients and add slowly to creamy mixture. Fold in until dough becomes a bit stiff.

Stir in your nerds. Do not over mix.

Pour into pan and spread out until smooth. Tap your pan.

Bake for 25 to 35 minutes, it's done when you stick a toothpick in and it comes out clean. The top should be golden brown.

Remove from oven and let stand in pan for 5 minutes.

Remove and let cool on a wire rack.

Add some glaze over top. I just took a bit of icing sugar and added a touch of milk, and some red food coloring.

Toss some extra nerds over top.

Add a second layer of glaze when first is dry. Again just take a small amount of icing sugar (1/4 to 1/2 cup) and milk (2 to 3 tablespoons) and mix. Drizzle over top and toss more nerds over it.

Cut and serve. (To nerds is preferred)

DOESN'T THAT JUST MAKE YOU WANT TO EAT THE BATTER

DON'T DO IT THOUGH, IT HAS EGG IN IT

OKAY SO I ADMIT IT, I ATE SOME

OKAY SO I ATE A LOT, THIS SHOULD BE WAY BIGGER

BUT IT'S OKAY. IT STILL MADE OODLES

SO WE HAD TONS, OH OKAY, WE HAD TONS TILL I ATE A BUNCH

As you can see I made the pink glaze a bit too liquidyblondies but they had a little wet tshirt contest. How bizarre is that? Wrong on so many levels.

Okay folks I am off for now. I am still a little shell shocked from tonight's phone call from my kids. The call every parent dreads with the words you do not want to hear, "Mom, we've had a little accident." Can we just say OMG OMG OMG! Your mind goes to the bad place right away. First response is "are you alright, is your sister alright, is the other driver alright?" Everything else just does not matter. I don't care about the car or hubby being late for work as he's waiting for that car. All I care about is my kids are okay. That the other driver is okay. And everyone is. Thank goodness. My son was driving, my daughter was with him. They were coming home from school and had stopped at a comic book store. He rear ended a lady. A very nice lady who actually took the phone during a conversation I was having with Bray. She felt so bad as he was so upset about the whole thing. So she wanted to assure me they were going to do their best to help him out as she liked him so much and thought he was a nice kid. Her boyfriend is a car dealer so they are going to try and work out a deal so he doesn't get killed with costs. Very nice of her to be nice to him after he hit her. Even more so that they are willing to be kind about it all. So after many frantic calls to Bray and Kiana I was calmed and assured they were okay. I told them to go somewhere and eat so Bray could calm himself down. Seemed to help. They are home, everyone is okay but let's just say Mom is still freaked out. The thought of my kids being hurt is just too scary for words. Even though I know they are okay I am still shook up by it all. So I am going to veg until my mind quiets. Since you all know me so well, let's just say it, it could take awhile. Lol!

Toodles and smoochies. xx

  2. Oh, Kim! I'm SO glad everyone is okay....accidents - even minor ones - are scary when it's your kids. Hugs to you and the kids! That was wonderful that the other party was so sweet.

These blondies look delish.... I AM a nerd (I love that movie and I recognized it immediately) I like my blondies with fruit. However, I know a BUNCH of folks that would go ga-ga over these!

Bright, colorful and fun....nicely done, girlfriend!

  5. Haha! Maybe you should lay off the sugar a little ... no, a lot. Gosh, I know how you feel. Mum's are all the same ... well, most good mums anyway. I get all this drama scenes going in my head when I get that and thankfully, so far, and no more and crossing my fingers, that it usually is a little less dramatic then I imagined it to be. Those blondies look great! Bad I must confess that I'd prefer the chocolate element in it too. As the kids tell me all the time ... Chill.

  6. Your blondies look cute and delicious at the same time. Oh gosh my heart will come out if I get a phone call from my kid mentioning "accident". Glad to hear everyone is okay. Lately I hear bad news about car accidents and I really need to be careful driving! Have a wonderful Thursday...2 more days till weekend!

  7. The only blondies I've ever had are the original recipe from the Betty Crocker Cookie Book. We've made those for years! Adding in candy sounds and looks like a neat and yummy twist :)

Glad that your kids are OK. My brother was in an accident in high school. No one was hurt but it was a hit-and-run on the freeway. Basically what happened was that when my brother was changing lanes, the car in front of him in the new lane stopped long enough for my brother to rear end it once getting into the lane, then took off. Fortunately my brother was smart enough (kinda lacked in common sense at the time) to call the cops and my dad and say what happened. His car was totaled and he had to get a new one. At least the woman your son hit wasn't a coward who took off and did it on purpose.

  9. I am dreading the day I receive a phone call like that. My heart sinks just thinking about it. Those blondies look so delicious and toothache inducing.

  10. Wow, I'm also very glad that the kids are ok and that they ended up rear-ending a nice person (ok, that sounds odd, but you know what I mean).

I LOVE blondies, but that's because I dislike chocolate. I have to admit that I have a thing for Nerds too. Any sour candy for that matter. These look like a sugar-high waiting to happen.

  11. Kim, I am really sorry you went through that - thank the Lord your children are fine. And you being freaked out - totally normal and a mommy thing. (((HUGS))) 'cos you need 'em!

LOL Wet T-shirt contest - you are sooo funny! I really wish I had the ability to make people smile and laugh like you do. Such a neat gift! Have a good rest of the week and try to relax.

  12. @Cassie- Thanks. I am on the fence over blondies. I need to try another recipe and see. I think I prefer the brownies simply as they have chocolate. Aren't nerds fun? Love them.

@Ann- Thanks. I am much calmer today. It's a parent's worst fear to have something happen to their kids. Having something happen to both of them would kill me. I just needed to shut off my brain.
Love the nerds! Had to reference the movie, it's a classic. I must try blondies with fruit. That might be the way to go.

@Sandra- Thanks my dear. I am much more mellow today. Although them getting in the car together later is gonna freak me out for a minute or two. Lucky no one was hurt. Thank goodness. Hope you try these out. Kids would love these,

@Dzoli- It's funny that they are 17 and 23 and I still freak out over things. You just never stop worrying about them. Love the nerd factor here.

@Ping- Never, sugar rules! Lol! I think it's universal that we all worry.

@Nami- He's had one other minor one but this was the first with his sister in the car. Think he was freaked out about calling me. Just thankful everyone is okay. I thought the nerds would be a cute addition. My daughter loves them.

@Sarah- Maybe I'll try that version and see what I think. I think I just need chocolate. Lol! I'll have to try nutella in them maybe. That is awful about your brother. I have seen people egg on accidents before. I had a guy trying to get me to hit him just last week. You can tell by their movement. Some people are so strange.

@Ridwin- Thanks so much. I was relieved when he said they were okay. Thankful it wasn't worse.

@Pretend Chef- This is the second call I've had like this. You just freak. Can't help it. Hope you never get them. Blondies make everything better though.

@The Mom Chef- We are super lucky he hit a nice lady. And you are right, it sounds weird. You dislike chocolate....what...how is this possible. Lol!

@Jennifer- Thanks. I am much better today. Nice and calm. I could not help myself with the tshirt comment. Then I wondered if I went too far. Lol! Thanks. I like to giggle. Makes the days go by faster and life is more fun.

On another note, Nerds?! I haven't had Nerds in forever, what an amazing idea!! These blondies look fantastic!

  14. Glad it wasn't a serious accident! Bet they were happy to have some sugary blondie nerds when they got home - great for shock!
I'm a blondie fan and solve the chocolate dilemma by loading them with white choc chips.

  15. First of all - I'm glad that the kiddos are A-okay! Accidents are never fun, but it's good to know that the other party is so understanding.

And second - these blondies sound pretty darn good to me - I've never seen Nerds incorporated into baked goods to they're definitely unique too!

  17. First of all, I'm so glad to hear that your kids are okay and over all it was a minor accident. It's good to know that there are still nice people in the world too.

Second of all, these blondies are adorable. My kiddos would go crazy for them! Love the colored icing too! Great final touch.

  18. Oh, what a relief your kids weren't hurt...whew. I think you need some chocolate. Blondies need chocolate...at least that's what my husband would tell you :)

  21. How did I miss this?! I'm signed up for email notifications but I haven't gotten them in about a week. I'm so glad to have stopped by anyway...Nerds are easily one of my favorite candies and since I don't eat chocolate - this is even better. I think this will be perfect for Halloween!

  22. Even if these weren't fall on the floor jump up and down good (hahaha) they sure are pretty. I agree, I have yet to meet a blondie that's anywhere close to a decent brownie.

  23. Yikes on the little car accident, Kim. I may never let my kids get their licenses! Fun blondies!
